It is pure joy to me to worship the Lord through dance, especially alongside sisters-in-Christ who also feel His pleasure through worship arts. I am humbled when someone stops to ask me a question about the symbolism of this piece. After whirling and singing hallelujahs, why do I pick up the stick of suffering and bondage again at the end of the dance?
Here's my response. Circumstances may not change. Many of the Israelites never saw the promise of God come to fruition with their own eyes in their own lifetimes. They remained slaves and were still under oppression. But, knowing that That Day was coming made all the difference. There is joy in the hard journey of life because of who He is. His presence brings joy in the midst of sorrow. He chose to enter in to our beautiful, crazy broken world and save us. Immanuel, Our God is with us!
Three friends told me that they were moved to tears watching us express love for Jesus. On the other hand, one minister in our church asked if we were "the dark angels". Too much Stars Wars in the media, or some people are just not as moved by the arts!
